AUSTIN PEAY WILL FACE GEORGIA IN NCAA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Austin Peay will begin the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship with a first-round match against number 3 natinal seed Georgia this Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia. Joining the Governors and Bulldogs in Athens are Furman and Wake Forest.

OVC PLAYERS INVITED TO SATELLITE CAMP
Deion Sanders is getting in the football satellite camp business. The first-year Jackson State head coach announced on social media Monday that he is holding a one-day camp this summer for high school athletes and Black college coaches. The camp will be held June 19. The event is open to SEC and Ohio Valley Conference members in addition to members of the SWAC, MEAC, and CIAA. The news comes hours after Sanders lamented on social media that no HBCU football players were selected during the 2021 NFL Draft. It was the first time since 2009 that no player representing an HBCU was drafted.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Wizards guard Russell Westbrook is etching his name in the record books once again. Westbrook tied the NBA record for most assists in a triple-double in last night’s 154-141 win over Indiana, ending with 14 points, 24 assists and 21 rebounds. It’s his league-leading 32nd triple-double this season and 178th of his career, three short of Oscar Robertson’s all-time record with seven games remaining.

Lakers star LeBron James is back on the sidelines. James sat out last night’s 93-89 home win over Denver to rest his sore right ankle. He reaggravated the ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to Toronto. He had just returned from a six-week absence on Friday due to a high-ankle sprain.

Carmelo Anthony is moving into elite company. The Trail Blazers forward moved to 10th on the all-time scoring list after scoring 14 points in last night’s loss in Atlanta, passing Elvin Hayes. ‘Melo sits at 27,318 career points.

Amazon Prime Video will soon be the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football. The NFL says it will start in the 2022 season, which is a year earlier than expected. This means the upcoming season will mark the final one that the featured Thursday night game will be on FOX.
