MONDAY HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL SCORES
Murray High defeated Fulton City 17-0 in the Region 1 All-A Classic. Carson Tucker led the Tiger offense with 5 RBIs in support of winning pitcher Caden Kelly.

Calloway County downed Christian County 10-0. Jackson Chapman led the Lakers with a 4 for 4 game as Colby White scattered 4 hits in the complete game shutout win. In other area games:

MONDAY HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL SCORES
Calloway County pounded Clarksville Northwest 18-1. Preslee Phillips led Calloway with 4 RBI’s as Caitlyn Powers tossed a 3-inning no-hitter to get the win, walking 3 and fanning 8.

Murray High crushed St. Mary 12-2 at the Region 1 All-A Classic in Paducah. Emily Dawson’s 5 RBI’s led Murray as Kylie Chapman whiffed 11 in picking up the 5-inning complete game win. In other games:

RACERS LEAD AFTER 2 ROUNDS IN NASHVILLE EVENT
The Murray State men’s golf team carded their best 36-hole day of the spring season with a 1-under-par 567 for the day one lead at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate at Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville. After a morning round of 288, the Racers posted a 279 in the afternoon to get a six-shot lead on second place UT Martin. At 138, Murray State’s Avery Edwards and Austin Knight shared third place in the field of 63 players, two shots behind medalist leader Scott Sparks of Detroit Mercy. The final round is being played today.

RACER BASEBALL GAME CANCELLED
Due to established protocols, the Murray State home baseball game scheduled for today against Kentucky State has been cancelled. The Racers will return to action with a doubleheader on Saturday at Belmont.

RACER SOCCER DUO HONORED
Izzy Heckman and Chloe Barnthouse of Murray State soccer have been recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the week respectively. Barnthouse recorded the first Murray State hat trick since Julie Mooney in 2014 when the freshman found the net three times in the Racers win over Eastern Illinois . Heckman provided the assist on Murray State’s third goal on Tuesday and also captained a Racer back line that did not concede a single shot on goal in the contest.

HENRY NAMED A TOP-100 FRESHMAN
Murray State’s Audrey Henry has been named an NCAA Division-I Top 100 Freshman according to Top Drawer Soccer’s midseason rankings. Coming in at #98, the Nicholasville, Kentucky native is one of only two Racers to play all 907 minutes this season, and has anchored a back line that has recorded three clean sheets on the way to securing an OVC regular-season championship.The Racers will return to action at 11 am Thursday when they meet Southeast Missouri in the OVC Tournament Semifinals at Cutchin Field

AP AT EIU GAME WILL NOT BE PLAYED
The Ohio Valley Conference football game between Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois originally scheduled for Sunday, April 11 in Charleston, Illinois will not be rescheduled. The game will be recorded as a no-contest and won’t count against either team’s overall record or the Conference standings. The decision not to reschedule was made since the game would have no bearing on determining the Conference’s automatic qualifier, which was awarded on Sunday, April 11.

CARDINALS LOSE SERIES OPENER TO NATS
The Cardinals dropped the series opener to the Nationals, 5-2, at Busch Stadium. John Gant got the loss after giving up three-runs on six hits over five-innings. Yadier Molina homered and Tommy Edman drove in a run for St. Louis, which dropped its third straight. The Cards and Nats continue the three-game set tonight. Airtime is set for 5:50 on WNBS AM and FM.

GRIZZLIES RALLY TO BEAT BULLS
Jonas Valanciunas had 26 points and 14 boards to lead the Grizzlies to a 101-90 win over the Bulls in Memphis. Ja Morant contributed 13 points and 10 assists to the win, while Dillon Brooks scored 17 points. Memphis took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring Chicago by 15 points. The Grizzlies play the Dallas Mavericks tomorrow night to wrap up a three-game homestand.

GEORGE INTRO IS TODAY
Eddie George will be formally introduced today as the new head football coach at Tennessee State. George won the 1995 Heisman Trophy at Ohio State and rushed for more than ten-thousand yards in the NFL, most of it with the Titans. In a similar move, Jackson State recently named Deion Sanders the head coach. Tennessee State is attempting to reinvigorate its program after three losing seasons.

VOLS HIRE GAINEY
Tennessee head basketball coach Rick Barnes has hired Justin Gainey to be an assistant. Gainey is a former North Carolina State point guard. He has spent time on the Marquette, Santa Clara, Elon, Appalachian State, NC State, and Arizona staffs.

DERBY UPDATE
Weyburn won’t be running in the Kentucky Derby on May 1st. The winner of the Grade 3 Gotham last month will skip the Derby for a Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes race on May 8th at Belmont to prep for the Belmont Stakes in June. Proxy is also out of the Derby after a fourth-place finish Saturday at Keeneland.

AREA HOCKEY REPORT
The Predators host the defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning tonight. Nashville is coming off a Sunday shootout win over Dallas. The Preds are 10-and-2 in their last dozen games and with 47 points are fourth in the Central. The deadly police shooting of Daunte Wright has put sports on hold in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. That included last night’s St. Louis Blues game against the wild, which was postponed.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Minnesota’s pro teams are on pause following the deadly police-involved shooting of a Black man just outside of Minneapolis. The Twins, T’wolves and Wild were all scheduled to play at home Monday, but the games were postponed. The Twins are at home again today.

Aaron Hicks sat out the Yankees’ 3-1 win over the Blue Jays in Dunedin as a result of the Minneapolis shooting. Manager Aaron Boone said the New York center fielder was “having a tough time” before the game, and felt it was best for him not to be in the club’s starting lineup.

Former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid is charged with felony DWI for his role in a February car crash that left a little girl critically injured. The son of head coach Andy Reid faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. The incident occurred near the Chiefs’ complex.

The NHL trade deadline has come and gone. The Capitals acquired forward Anthony Mantha from the Red Wings for Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik and two picks. The Golden Knights also got forward Mattias Janmark from the Blackhawks in a three-team deal involving the Sharks.

Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is calling it a career. He announced his retirement in a Twitter video on Monday. The Pats terminated the 34-year-old’s contract after a failed physical. Edelman won three championships with New England and was the MVP of Super Bowl 53.
