GOVS EDGE RACERS IN BATTLE OF THE BORDER SKIRMISH
Grant Paulette kicked a 33-yard field goal with two seconds remaining as Austin Peay upset 14th-ranked Murray State 34-31 Saturday afternoon at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville. Racer quarterback Preston Rice was 13-for-20 passing with 193 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 32 yards and had two rushing touchdowns. Demonta Witherspoon had 95 rushing yards and a touchdown, while LaMartez Brooks had eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. Eric Samuta paced the Racer defence with 16 tackles. Despite the loss, the 5-1 Racers will square off against 12th-ranked Jacksonville State on Sunday for the Ohio Valley Conference title and automatic berth to the FCS playoffs. Tonight, we will talk about the games on the Hey Coach Show, airing at 6 on FROGGY 103.7.

RACER SOCCER CLAIMS OVC REGULAR SEASON TITLE
Murray State soccer scored three unanswered goals Friday night to capture a 3-1 victory over Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, claiming an outright Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship. Lilly Strader scored two goals and Rebecca Kubin one as the Racers improved to 8-1-0. For the Racers, the OVC title is their fifth regular-season crown. The Racers will host the OVC Tournament on April 15th and 17th where they will seek their fifth OVC Tournament trophy. On Tuesday at 1 pm, the Racers host Eastern Illinois in their regular season finale.

RACER SOFTBALL SWEPT AT JSU
Murray State softball concluded a three-game road series with a 1-0 loss at Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon. Jenna Veber went the distance in the circle, but the Racers slipped to 14-19 overall and 11-6 in the OVC. Veber surrendered just one unearned run through six innings of work without issuing a walk. MSU outhit the Gamecocks 6-5 with Linday Carroll and Sierra Gilmore delivering two hits each. The Racers will return to with a Tuesday doubleheader at Austin Peay.

RACER TENNIS SWEEPS UT MARTIN
Murray State tennis improved to 3-0 on Friday after cruising to a 7-0 road sweep over UT Martin. The Racers return to action on Wednesday with a road match at SEMO.

RACER GOLF HOSTS MSU INVITE AT GREYSTONE
The Murray State men’s golf team will host the MSU Invitational today and tomorrow at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee. The Racers are part of a field of 15 teams and 76 players that will play 36 holes today and 18 in tomorrow’s final round.

HIGHLANDS WINS BOYS SWEET 16 TITLE
Highlands defeated McCracken County 63-53 Friday night in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena. The Bluebirds went on to defeat Ashland Blazer 66-50 and Elizabethtown 79-60 on Saturday to claim the state title. The KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 begins on Wednesday and will air on WNBS AM and FM.

MOREHEAD CLAIMS OVC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Morehead State’s volleyball claimed the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. The Eagles’ straight-set sweep of Jacksonville State on Friday secured their fifth conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.

CARDINALS HAMMERED BY REDS
Carlos Martínez and the Cardinals bullpen couldn’t contain the Reds in a 12-1 loss in Cincinnati. Martínez dropped his first start of the season after giving up four runs over five frames. Yadier Molina drove in the lone run for St. Louis, which dropped the season opening three-game series. The Cards visit the Marlins today, with airtime set for 4:45 on WNBS AM and FM.

GRIZZLIES DOWN 76ERS
Memphis took control with a 45-point third quarter to beat the Sixers 116-100 in Philadelphia. For the Grizzlies, Dillon Brooks scored 17 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Ja Morant added 8 points and 10 assists. 24-23 Memphis remains on the road tomorrow to play in Miami.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
The Nashville Predators will try to continue their hot streak tomorrow night when they play the first of two against the Red Wings in Motown. Nashville shut out Chicago Saturday for its seventh victory in eight games. The Preds are 20-18-and-1 and will face the Red Wings again on Thursday. The Blues are looking to end a six-game losing streak tonight against the Golden Knights at home. St. Louis fell 2-1 to the Avalanche on Saturday. The Blues are fifth in the Western Division at 16-15-and-6.

ETSU NAMES OLIVER AS MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
East Tennessee State University is set to introduce its new basketball coach today. A press conference is set for this afternoon to introduce Desmond Oliver as the new leader of the Buccaneers. Oliver had been a UT assistant coach since 2015. Oliver is replacing Jason Shay who resigned as ETSU’s head coach after one year.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The men’s college basketball season comes to a close tonight. Top-seeded Gonzaga puts its 31-and-0 record on the line against fellow top seed Baylor in the NCAA Tournament title game in Indianapolis. Gonzaga outlasted UCLA and Baylor beat Houston in Saturday’s Final Four.

Stanford women’s basketball is celebrating its third national championship. Most Outstanding Player Haley Jones had 17 points to lead the top-seeded Cardinal to a 54-53 win over third-seeded Arizona in the women’s NCAA title game in San Antonio. Stanford last won it all in 1992.

The Washington Nationals are still waiting to play ball. Their entire opening series against the Mets in D.C. was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Nats’ organization. Their game tonight against the Braves is also postponed, but MLB has given the all-clear for tomorrow.

The Bucks are keeping Jrue Holiday in Milwaukee. Multiple reports say the 30-year-old guard has agreed to a four-year deal worth up to 160-million dollars. Milwaukee acquired Holiday from the Pelicans in a four-team trade in November. He’s averaging 17 points in 38 games this season.

Jordan Spieth is back in the PGA win column after nearly a four-year drought. He fired a six-under 66 Sunday to hold off Charley Hoffman and win the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. Spieth finished 18-under, two ahead of Hoffman. The Masters starts Thursday.
